Meet Leticia Rees who has successfully grown her insurance broking business, Ausure Coastal, in NSW and beyond. She also received the prestigious Achiever Award from the Ausure group, recognising her professionalism, growth and success as an insurance adviser.

We asked Rees what she loves about being an adviser and also got heaps of helpful insurance and business tips to share.

What’s been a memorable moment?
“As insurance advisers, we provide a professional risk management service and find solutions for clients in the event they do experience a loss.

For me, it’s often when a loss occurs that a relationship really solidifies with a client.


Port Macquarie/Wauchope and Taree have suffered incredible losses in the past couple of years with bushfires and flood disasters. Being there for people in their time of need to guide them calmly through the claim process is a time I will never forget.

Clients genuinely lean on us as a pillar of strength for them when they are going through a horrific time. As brokers, we feel proud to be able to help our clients through that.

Of course, another highly memorable moment was winning the 2021 Ausure Young Achiever Award. This award was unexpected, and I am of course thrilled to be recognised amongst my peers for the work I do.”

3 Tips about insurance?

–  Risk Mitigation is Key. Have good processes in place to prevent unnecessary loss. This will also assist in keeping premiums down.

–  Cheaper is not necessarily better when purchasing insurance. Be aware, there can be limitations in the cover which is what makes it cheaper than more comprehensive policy options.

– Review your assets and risks regularly to ensure you are covered. Be sure to communicate any changes to your broker throughout the year. We don’t know if we’re not informed.

What do you say to people who don’t think insurance is necessary?
“I usually ask them the question: ‘How would you cope if you were to suffer a total loss and not be insured?’

More often than not, they realise they wouldn’t cope, financially or emotionally and the cost to them is worth the investment each year.”

What’s contributed to the growth and success of your business?
“My drive for personal success means I am committed to my work and doing it well with my clients’ best interests in mind.”

“I work with this philosophy: If I would not be happy with that service/product, I would not provide it to my clients.’


I try and go above and beyond for my client to ensure their satisfaction. I believe working in this way creates trust and clients want to work with me, forging long-term working relationships and thus also stability for my business.”

What do you enjoy about living in Newcastle?

“Without a doubt the beach. I grew up here and really love our community. The lifestyle it promotes for my children is one of healthy and active living as we are constantly walking to and from the beach, surfing, riding bikes and walking the dog.

Ausure Coastal is a proud supporter of many local Clubs and sponsors the Redhead Boardriders Club, which holds monthly competitions and a great day at the beach for the whole family.

We also sponsor the Catho Classic (one of the longest annual competitions in Australia running its 43rd event this year!), Warners Bay Sports Club & the Coffs Comets.

Leticia and her team in Newcastle have also participated in the Variety Spin4Kids Charity Day a few years running.”

Brief bio:
Leticia Rees commenced her insurance career in 2005 at a major insurer and was involved in Claims, Underwriting and Sales. When the opportunity for redundancy presented itself to me, I accepted and followed my interest into Insurance Broking. I had the opportunity to work with people I already knew and made the move to Ausure Newcastle in 2017. I purchased Ausure Coastal in 2018 and have been working with my clients on the Mid North Coast closely ever since.”


What advice can you give insurance brokers or other businesses starting out? “I would recommend not being afraid to ask the question of people and just giving it a go. Be prepared to work very hard and occasionally be rejected. You never know what you can do if you don’t try.”


As a business owner, what do you value about being an Authorised Representative of the national Ausure Group? Ausure has a great AR support network. Head office has been set up to be accessible to all of the AR’s and you are treated like a part of the business, not just a number. There is so much knowledge throughout the group and you can bounce off your ideas and problem solve with other professionals or subject matter experts within the group. This in turn is of tremendous value to clients.”
