Ausure Attends ‘The Big Meet’
An insurance broking career has generally been generational or highly influenced by family or close connections when recruiting potential brokers to a career in insurance; however, Ausure hopes to expand from this model by promoting the industry through events and opportunities like The Big Meet.
On the 24th of March, two of Ausure’s industry representatives attended The Big Meet for the first time, held at the Brisbane Exhibition Centre in South Brisbane.
The Big Meet is a career fair that is held in multiple locations across Australia and is open to school leavers, undergraduates, and graduates who want to connect and learn about a variety of industries and organisations.
Showcasing Insurance Careers at The Big Meet
Adam Sloan, General Manager of Business Development at Ausure, has focused on driving young talent to the industry, and a part of this, is to bring awareness of the sector through Ausure’s attendance at events such as this. Adam shared, “In the past three years, Ausure has focused heavily on investing in the future of both our group and the broader insurance industry.
“Our initial motivation for attending the Big Meet was to showcase the numerous opportunities available within the sector. Often, people don’t graduate from their studies and immediately think, ‘I want to work in insurance.’ We aim to change that perception by highlighting the diverse and rewarding career paths that the industry offers. Our goal is to inspire and attract fresh talent to the industry and, in particular, to Ausure.”
Aiming to bring more awareness to the Insurance broker industry, Ausure’s Claims Manager, Darren Free, and Broking Manager, John Mills, attended the half-day event. With over 50 years of combined industry experience between them, Darren and John provided students with a range of valuable insights into the industry, the range of opportunities in a career in broking, and other positions that are available when working in a group, such as Ausure.
Inspire Future Brokers
Darren Free shared his experience from the day, “John and I had a fantastic time representing Ausure at The Big Meet! It was great to chat with so many enthusiastic uni students keen to learn about the exciting career opportunities in insurance broking.
“We were blown away by the level of interest, with plenty of students submitting expressions of interest on the day. We’re excited to follow up and see where their careers might take them with Ausure!”
By attending events like The Big Meet, Ausure hopes to attract the next generation of brokers and support staff from a variety of diverse backgrounds and skill sets to breathe new ideas, experience and culture into the Insurance industry.
John agreed with Darren’s sentiment, reiterating, “The day was really buzzing with Uni Undergraduates for over 4 hours with hundreds of students coming through the doors to see what employers had to offer and come visit little old Ausure way up the back at number 96 stall.
“Coming from a broker who has been in the industry for 30 years, the day was exciting to be part of, and get amongst the students and listen to their stories of study and what areas of the industry they were looking at for their futures. It was interesting to see and hear from a number of IT /Data Science/ Applied Finance graduates who were quite curious asking us, ‘ What do you do?” and trying to see if what they studied may fit within our broking sector.
“I’m a bit biased of course, but I thought Ausure’s stand stood out, like a lighthouse beacon of hopes and dreams. Firstly, Darren and I positively ached from our constant smiling and engagement, and we had a revolving video showing all the ‘ Good Times’ you could possibly have by being part of the broking fraternity. We went through the basic starting career point of being employed as a broker, and if prepared to work and study hard, then the broking world really is your oyster. We really are an underrated industry; I simply don’t understand why we have to be Tony Robbins to sell this great industry!”
