Meet North Queensland insurance specialist David Reid
Ausure welcomes David Reid, Director of Ausure Securus Brokers, who brings his insurance experience and enthusiasm for helping people in Townsville and North Queensland.
Ausure Securus Brokers is a locally owned insurance broking business delivering professional insurance advice and solutions to North Queensland businesses. David Reid lives in Townsville and having worked in insurance for 35 years, has a treasure chest of memorable experiences to share. He reflects, “Every one of those memories has been associated with delivering on the promise and commitment I made to clients, and being there and serving them at claim time. A positive claim outcome is delivering on the promise.”
When you chat to David Reid you’ll realise he is passionate about his work as an insurance adviser and the care involved in helping people through his role provides satisfaction and meaning. He enjoys the opportunity to build trusted long-term relationships with clients and the satisfaction of making a difference in people’s lives through the implementation of quality insurance and risk programs. He considers it a real privilege to be able to serve clients in their time of need, especially when he can deliver great claims outcomes for his clients.
“When you live in North Queensland you are truly living in ‘Paradise’. Whether you are based on the coast, or Central or Western North Queensland, the people and the places are genuinely amazing. There is this wonderful sense of community in regional centers and certainly in our region. Our regional community is resilient and proud. It’s great to be a part of that.”
However, as an insurance broker, working and living in a region such as North Queensland does come with increased exposure to damaging weather-related events, including cyclones and floods, which means that David has seen more than his fair share of these events over the years.
How has he coped with these events? “I have always responded swiftly to connect with affected clients to deliver peace of mind to them at a time that is very distressing,” says David.
As a result, he can recount many stories about serving clients in their time of need. Some of those experiences relate to our largest weather events in recent times including ‘The Night of Noah’ storm in January 1998, Cyclone Yasi in February 2011, and in the following year a tornado that swept across residential and commercial and industrial precincts in Townsville.
“It’s also very hard to forget the devastating floods of 2019 that not only impacted Townsville homes and businesses but also many cattle producers, and businesses and residents throughout Central Queensland.”
“There is nothing more fulfilling than helping people in their time of need. Because of my occupation and experience I am fortunate to be on call and able to help my clients when they need me most.”
What does David say to people who don’t think Insurance is necessary? “Insurance is an important part of protecting the hard work people have put into their businesses and personal lives. Without it, starting again for those who may have lost everything is not an option.
“Insurance is no magic wand that you can wave to turn back the clock of damage caused by an event, but it can help make the recovery following the event less stressful and less financially impactful.”
3 Insurance Tips:
1. Know ‘why’ you want or need to insure.
2. Diligently select the coverage options that meet the level of protection you want or need (and don’t wind it back as you work through the selection process).
3. Don’t allow price to be your main or only deciding factor when choosing an insurance policy, because you will often get what you paid for.
“Often, in the North Queensland region, because of limitations on choice, clients are already with the insurance company(ies) they need to be with. David Reid started in the insurance industry in 1987, straight out of Year 12 high school, by working in an international insurance brokerage as a junior clerk. He says he hasn’t really looked back and reflects on the past 35 years: “I have had the opportunity to build and rebrand insurance businesses over the years and have led some fantastic teams of people. Mostly though, I have been privileged to work with so many clients that I have forged lifelong friendships with. I am so grateful to have been on their own business journeys with them, and I look forward to working with them into the future.”
