Mick Urquhart owner of Ausure Byron Bay retires, with the business acquired by Ausure Newcastle
Ausure Newcastle have acquired Ausure Byron Bay on August 31. The acquisition sees Newcastle grow their footprint along the South East Coast, already having locations in Newcastle, Port Macquarie and Canberra.
The trio behind the growing brand; David Summers, Travis Hargreaves and Nathan Wicks – who have been part of the Ausure group for a collective 30+ years, are committed to providing quality and niche advice to businesses across Australia.
“We are thrilled to announce our recent acquisition of Ausure Byron Bay, a move that reflects not only our deep-rooted passion for the coastal lifestyle but also our commitment to expanding our presence in thriving, vibrant communities. Byron Bay’s unique charm and energetic atmosphere have drawn us in.
With established businesses in Newcastle and Port Macquarie, this acquisition marks a significant step forward in our journey. Byron Bay perfectly complements our existing portfolio of insurance clients and businesses that we proudly support day in and day out. Its diverse and dynamic community aligns seamlessly with our values and mission.
We look forward to serving and growing with the incredible people and businesses that call Byron Bay home, while continuing to provide the exceptional insurance solutions that have defined us.
As we embark on this exciting new chapter, we remain committed to our core principles and are eager to contribute to the growth and well-being of the Byron Bay community.” David Summers, Principal of Ausure Collective
Mick had been looking to retire and Ausure Newcastle is actively looking to expand. Ausure was able to assist in the negotiations and fast track the sale for both parties. Once negotiations were finalised, the sale was finalised within 8 days, and made easier by the fact that both businesses are Authorised Representatives of Ausure.
“The Ausure Branch Projects team was able to work with both parties to get the project underway quickly. Christine McLean (Project Manager – Technology) negotiated the preferred date for the policy transfer to occur in line with the purchase date. Our team worked together and we’re happy that we were able to meet everyone’s expectations given the limited timeframes.” Deb Whyte, Head of People & Culture.
Ausure Byron Bay was established in 2005 by Mick Urquhart who has been part of the industry for over 45 years.
Mick Urquhart
Original owner of Ausure Byron Bay
“Ausure Byron Bay was established in 2005 thanks to an approach made by Wayne Brown (founder of Ausure) to join. It has been a privilege to be part of such a special group. The business grew rapidly due to being able to look outside the square, and more importantly looking after and educating my clients. Over the last couple of years, we have again grown the business with many original clients returning as well as other clients by word of mouth. I now intend to finally retire and hopefully improve my golf (live next door to the golf course) keep fit, fish and travel. We are so happy to have sold to Ausure Newcastle, as they already have a connection with the area. I am confident that these clients will continue to receive the service they have become accustomed to.” Mick Urquhart
Mick Urquhart will be staying on to assist with the transition of the business.
