Pushing Limits, Building Courage: Highlights from Dual’s Advanced Adventure Program 2025

Last November, Ausure team members Rebbecca O’Rourke and Caleb Flavell took part in the 7th edition of Dual’s Advanced Adventure Program 2025, a transformative three-day experience held in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. The program challenged participants to step outside their comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and discover their full potential, both personally and professionally.

Before diving into the highlights of this year, it is important to acknowledge just how meaningful this program is to Ausure. John Mills, Ausure’s Broking Manager shared, “Ausure has been mighty privileged to be part of the DUAL Advanced Adventure Program since 2017. I was fortunate enough to take part in 2018 with Adam Sloan, and we still talk about it. Abseiling, canyoning, fireside chats, amazing food and wine, getting to know brokers from all over Australia and being around the magnificent DUAL Team for three and a half days. It does not get any better. Connections and challenging your own limitations. That is what life should be about. Simply, we love it and we know how much this brings out of our staff when they take part in this phenomenal program. I have the pleasure of selecting two staff each year, and you cannot help but get a bit emotional hearing how much Caleb and Rebbecca got out of this year’s event. This will be life changing for them.”

This long standing connection set the stage for another remarkable year, further reflected by the sentiment shared by DUAL’s Marketing Team, who noted, “The DUAL Advanced Adventure Program brought together respected and emerging leaders for a unique opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, build meaningful industry connections, and experience the stunning natural beauty of the Blue Mountains. This year’s program had a powerful impact, leaving participants with confidence and personal growth that will endure well beyond the event. We’re proud to have created such a memorable initiative, now recognised as one of the premier future leader experiences in our industry.”

Day 1: Connection and Community

The adventure began on Sunday evening with a welcome dinner at The Collective in The Rocks. The private dining room offered a relaxed setting for participants to connect, forge new friendships, and set the stage for the days ahead. After dinner, attendees enjoyed drinks at The Fax Bar, a chance to continue conversations and strengthen bonds in an informal setting.

Day 2: Learning, Leadership, and the Journey to the Mountains

On Monday, participants gathered for breakfast at the Dual Sydney office, followed by an interactive presentation and panel session with Damien Coates. After collecting packed lunches, the group boarded buses and journeyed to the Megalong Valley in the Blue Mountains.

The afternoon featured a keynote presentation and workshop with adventurer James Castrission, offering insights into leadership, perseverance, and pushing personal limits. Later, attendees relaxed with fireside drinks and nibbles before enjoying the 5-star ‘Sounds of Silence’ dining experience under the stars, concluding the day around a campfire.

Day 3: Adventure and Overcoming Fears

Tuesday was dedicated to adventure. Participants rose early for tea and breakfast before departing for a full day of activities, which included abseiling, canyoning, bushwalking, and team-building challenges. For Caleb, one of the most memorable moments came during this day. He was presented with the Warrior Award, a participant-voted recognition celebrating someone who stepped outside their comfort zone and overcame a personal fear. In Caleb’s case, that fear came in the form of abseiling down a thirty-metre, ice-cold waterfall, an achievement that left a lasting impression on his fellow attendees.

As Caleb reflected, “For me, I wanted to go down there and get something out of the trip, and I couldn’t do that if I did not give everything a red-hot crack! From having shaky legs at the 5-meter training wall to conquering the thirty-metre canyon, I felt a really good sense of achievement – completing something I thought I would never do, and making lifelong friends along the way was really the cherry on top. Who would have thought being an AE for an insurance brokerage would someday send me down to the Blue Mountains to abseil!”

Day 4: Reflection and Farewell

Wednesday offered a slower pace, with options for yoga or a short morning walk before breakfast and packing up. The program concluded with a farewell session, after which participants returned to Sydney, carrying with them not only memories but also renewed confidence and perspective.

Growth Beyond the Adventure

Reflecting on the experience, Rebbecca shared, “Thank you to Dual for hosting us and to our Ausure managers who nominated us for this incredible, life-changing experience. Together we made some amazing friends, faced our fears, and came back feeling inspired to take on life’s great challenges.”

As the highest town in the Blue Mountains, Blackheath can see snow in winter, while summer temperatures can reach up to 40°C. Proper preparation ensured that each participant could fully embrace the experience, no matter the conditions. Through challenging activities, expert-led workshops, and shared experiences, the Dual Advanced Adventure Program 2025 empowered Rebbecca and Caleb to grow in confidence, resilience, and leadership. It was a transformative experience that highlighted the value of courage, teamwork, and stepping outside one’s comfort zone.
